I actually thought about this myself before. I concluded that Wall-E can’t be male or female. It’s an irrelevant question for a robot. That Wall-E and Eve are given male and female traits is typical personification and imposition of human archetypes for narrative purposes. Wall-E is clearly inspired by human males, but “he,” alas, is not one.
